One of my very favorite sounds…

I just wanted to pop in and say ‘hello!’ while I’m waiting for a layer of paint to dry on one of my pieces.  Today while painting, I have been watching some of my old and dearest movies, and I made a huge discovery!  You know the sound of an orchestra tuning before a concert?  That sound is one of my all time favorite sounds.  I love it because of all my memories of going to symphony concerts, and I love it because it fills me up with anticipation.  To me, it is the musician’s blank canvas…. Well, one of today’s movie choices had a preview of The Little Mermaid… (Yes… sometimes I paint to Disney movies.  No shame!)  And I think my love of an orchestra tuning comes from Sebastian’s concert, found here.  I was three when I first saw this movie, so it might very well be my first orchestral experience!  Ha!  Anyway, a random facet of my overall makeup, but a fun fact just the same!  Holler out to Jamie G. :)

  1. woot woot!

  2. I’ve always liked that sound too. I felt it was the sound of instruments and musicians at ease.

  3. What an interesting choice!

I like it for the sense of delicious anticipation it creates — you’re about to hear some amazing stuff. I do not play a musical instrument so am in awe of the skill and training and hard work it takes to play professionally in an orchestra. To simply saw away a bit while waiting to crank out a symphony or two is magical in my eyes.
